Apikuni Falls and Many Glacier

We celebrated my husband’s birthday with a visit to Many Glacier valley and lunch at Many Glacier Lodge, which is now my favorite of all the Glacier Park lodges.

But first, a hike to Apikuni Falls.  It’s only a mile long, but with 700 feet in elevation gain, we were stopping often to catch our breath.   We made it!

Apikuni means “Far Off White Robe” in the Piegan Blackfeet language and is the name give to James Willard Schultz, a white man who married a Piegan woman (Natahki) and lived with the Blackfeet.  Schultz authored 20 books, including My Life As An Indian which is one of my all time favorite books.
